I was raised in a home with a culture of music. We always had music playing. We would sing together at our Shabbat table. To sing wasn’t uncomfortable, it was normal. This was a true blessing because song is an avenue which permits the expression of a very deep part of ourselves. It reaches much deeper than words.
As we connect with song, we each realize that certain songs are a better expression than others of who we are. These are the songs we are more attracted do. Some songs express our deep yearnings, others express our joys and yet others empower us.
There is one song, though, that belongs to us and us alone. It’s our song. It’s the free expression of our inner spirit. Yet, it can be quite difficult to sing this song. Not because it must be composed, it’s already composed. It is because it needs to be liberated. We need to step out of the way so it can freely flow.
My blessing to all is that we experience that day when our song freely flows.
